Everyone Should Have a Dream
Thursday, 06 January 2011 00:00
Presentation by Hiro Iwamoto

My Dream is to be the first blind sailor to travel across the Pacific ocean from California to Japan. This is a distance of about 5,500 miles and is a difficult passage for even sighted sailors. The journey will take from 50 to 70 days assuming fair winds.

By achieving this challenge I hope to bring awareness to the possibilities that exist for anyone willing to have a Dream and to persist in reaching for it. It's easy to focus on limitations and obstacles but history remembers only those individuals willing to take risks and strive beyond the perceived limits to reach their goals. To realize their Dream. What's your Dream?

The Dream Project

The Dream Project is to first enter the Transpac sailing race in 2011. This world class race is from Long Beach, CA to Honolulu, Hawaii.

The second phase of the Dream Project is to sail all the way to Tokyo from San Diego. Attempting this feat will involve a significant amount of planning for severe weather, sleep deprivation, and an array of other dangers, difficulties and (possible) disasters. But that's my Dream.

How you can help

The Dream Project is looking for corporate and individual sponsors who want to get involved. Sponsorship can be in the form of monetary contributions or volunteering opportunities. We are also looking for supporters willing to offer sailing related merchandise.
