Presentation by Rick Wright The destructive force generated from earthquakes comes in the form of lateral shear. The product of the lateral shear and the distance to the plane of action generates a force known as the overturning moment. This presentation will analyze the effect of the overturning moment on shear walls and retaining walls, and the modes of failure these structures may experience when a large-than-usual sized earthquake strikes. |
